PRESENTATION

"ONCE UPON A TIME, USING TYRE RUBBER WAS A MESS..."

SACYR has included in its strategic plan being carbon-neutral in 2050. Several techniques and material has helped getting CO2 reduction off the ground. An example of these techniques is the use of additives based on powder from used tyres which not only make use of a waste material but also improves durability and performance of asphalt mixes. SACYR has used rubber additive, reacted and activated crumb rubber ( RARX), for overcoming logistics problems during construction that existed in the past, before this technology was introduced. Understanding the acting principle of RARX is key to be able to apply this material making the most of its properties for obtaining technical production simplification, sensational mix performance and huge CO2 savings in the projects. This presentation will cover the basic of rubber and RARX contribution based on SACYR experience and will describe several real scale projects where it has been applied

Conference General Scope

RAR2022 will focus on any and all rubberized asphalt materials containing scrap tire rubber, from a low percentage such as 5 percent to higher percentages above even 24 percent. Since there have been so many recent significant changes in the testing, specifying and application of scrap tire rubber in asphalt this Conferences focus is literally on all types of asphalt binders or asphalt hot mixes containing any percentage of scrap tire rubber, as well as both wet and dry applications. In addition both generic and proprietary rubberized asphalt products can be reported. Case studies, environmental effects and benefits, cost effectiveness of many paving construction materials and techniques will be presented.
